What’s up discgenerates! It’s The Disc Golf World. I’m Jefferson, alongside Swiss Cheese — the man with more holes in his game than a putter rack. We’re here at The Beast to break down everything from what might be the greatest World Championships of all time.
Best Worlds Ever? Crowds, Courses & Marketing
From the moment the gates opened, it was clear this was no ordinary Worlds. Record-breaking crowds packed the course, proving that disc golf can deliver both great courses and an incredible spectator experience. Every hole featured matching sponsor tents, rail banners, and yard signs — a huge leap forward in disc golf marketing.
Major sponsors like Haribo (handing out candy) and Ford (showcasing cars on the course) made their presence known. Hole 16’s hay bale signage? Perfect for highlight clips if the tournament was decided there. This is the kind of presentation that could draw more outside sponsorship into the sport.
Prize Pool Controversy
Despite the event’s success, the prize pool saw a dip — $100,000 less added cash than last year, costing the MPO winner $10,000 compared to previous seasons. Drew Gibson was the first to raise the issue in a YouTube video, sparking debate across the community. Although he later released a follow-up saying he was wrong, questions remained about transparency and payouts.
Global Representation & PDGA’s Best Decision Yet
This year’s Worlds featured players from 45 different countries, thanks to the PDGA inviting the top-rated player from every nation. Pros and fans alike praised the move, likening it to the Olympics in terms of pride and representation. The live broadcast in Finland reached 300,000 concurrent viewers, peaking at 600,000 — staggering numbers for the sport.
FPO Recap – Ohn Scoggins Makes History
Championship Sunday was electric for the FPO division. Ella Hansen made a huge charge from the chase card, nearly setting the highest-rated FPO round ever. Henna Blomroos led late but faltered on the greens, missing critical C1X putts, including a costly one on hole 17. That opened the door for Ohn Scoggins, who forced the first-ever FPO playoff at Worlds against Ida Lehtomäki.
In the playoff, Ohn stayed inbounds while Ida went OB on her approach, leading to a simple C1X putt for the win. The victory made Ohn the oldest player ever to win an FPO World Championship and a Masters World Championship in the same season, a feat unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.
MPO Recap – Gannon Buhr’s Nerve-Holding Win
In MPO, early fireworks came from Ezra Aderhold with a 14-under course record, but Gannon Burr kept his composure. By the final day, Buhr only needed a clean back nine to secure the title. He stuck the island on hole 16, bogeyed 17, but parred 18 to claim the championship. Aaron Gossage made a hard charge from the chase card, but once again settled for second at Worlds.
Media Presence Like Never Before
The 2025 Worlds had unprecedented media coverage, with over 100 outlets from more than 10 countries capturing the action. The awards ceremony, champagne sprays, and on-course celebrations showcased the professionalism and global appeal of disc golf at its peak.
