This Week in Disc Golf: New DGPT Stop, Match Play Madness & European Championships

What’s good, Disgenerates? Welcome back to This Week in Disc Golf with your guy Swiss Cheese – the one with all the holes in his game – repping The Disc Golf World, your go-to channel for fast-hitting pro disc golf news without the filler.

DGPT Announces 2026 Schedule Addition

The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) made waves with an early 2026 schedule announcement. No, it’s not a cracker barrel like logo change – it’s a brand new tour stop hitting the map. The season will still kick off in Brooksville, Florida, for the Supreme Flight Open, but a new twist is coming: the Big Easy Open in New Orleans, Louisiana.

New Orleans Gets Its Shot

The Big Easy Open will be played at Parc De Familles in Jefferson Parish – a Houck design and Louisiana’s #1 rated disc golf course on UDisc. Cypress trees, swamp vibes, true Louisiana flavor – and yes, Matty O already approves of the food.

The layout has been torched before (Matty O, Silas Schultz, Linus Carlson, and Micah Grow all averaged double-digit unders), but with updates, property to expand, and parish investment, the DGPT believes this stop is pro-ready.

Why It Matters

  • Relieves DGPT travel strain for players and staff
  • Adds a new metropolitan fan base in New Orleans
  • Potential for party vibes + tourist draw = strong attendance
  • Expands exposure in the South with another marquee stop

It checks a lot of boxes – but also raises questions. Will another stop be cut from the schedule to balance player fatigue? Or is DGPT ready to expand?

Match Play Recap: Aces, Upsets, and Trash Talk

Match Play was back this week, and while the format itself can feel like fluff, it gave us one of the best shots of the year: Gannon Buhr’s ace on hole 11, cashing him $500 and a Texas Roadhouse feast.

And of course, we got the banter: “I Love Cox” shirts, Humphries with the stopwatch, and Vinny vs Isaac in a heavyweight showdown.

MPO Highlights

  • Calvin Heimburg vs Isaac Robinson: Vinny battled back after Isaac’s hot start to tie 4-4.
  • Joey Buckets: Looked sharp, stacking birdies to beat Simon 4-3.
  • Gannon Buhr: Rolled Luke Humphries 8-3, ace included, securing group advancement.
  • AB: Swept Chris Dickerson 6-0 with 10 birdies in 13 holes.
  • Group B: Matty O leads, Paul McBeth eliminated, Ezra Aderhold vs Ricky Wysocki showdown next week.
  • Group C: Niklas Anttila cruising, Hammes needs help, Ezra Robinson still in the mix.

FPO Highlights

  • Rebecca Cox: Owned Idlewild, birdied 6 of final 8 to beat Madison Walker 5-2.
  • Missy Gannon: Advanced thanks to Paige Pierce’s withdrawal.
  • Kat Merch vs Catrina Allen: “Battle of Cats” incoming – winner moves on.
  • Ohn Scoggins: Circle 2 bombs, 65-foot dagger, beats Cat Allen 5-2, group winner.
  • Kristin Latt: Advances despite injury forfeit.
  • Silva Saarinen, Kona Montgomery, Ella Hansen, Holyn Handley: All fighting for spots in final group stage.
