Disc Golfers SAVED Course From DESTRUCTION

Disc Golfers Rally to Save Stafford Woods

The disc golf community once again proved its strength and unity. In 2023, New Jersey’s top-rated disc golf course, Stafford Woods, faced closure after the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) ordered Voorhees Township to dismantle the popular 18-hole course.

From the moment the news broke, the community sprang into action. Supporters created petitions, wore “Save Stafford Woods” shirts, and rallied to keep the issue in the public eye. Meanwhile, the township, wary of losing future funding, stood its ground as negotiations with NJDEP played out over a year and a half.

At times, the future of Stafford Woods looked bleak. However, thanks to the relentless efforts of Voorhees Township Mayor Michael Mignogna, the township committee, disc golf activist Adam Harris, and countless others, a resolution was reached to preserve the course.

This victory is one of the biggest wins for the sport this year and stands as a testament to the power of persistence and community action. Cheers to everyone who played a role in saving Stafford Woods!

Disc Golf Pro Tour Releases Match Play Details

In a more coordinated release than certain emoji-filled signal messages, the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) has detailed its upcoming Match Play event. The event kicks off at the Music City Open (MCO) in just a week, and fans now have a clearer idea of the format, matchups, and schedule.

Some of the highlighted matchups include:

  • Gannon Buhr vs. Anthony Barela
  • Paul McBeth vs. Ricky Wysocki
  • Ezra Robinson vs. Kyle Klein
  • Calvin Heimburg vs. Isaac Robinson
  • Holyn Handley vs. Ella Hansen

With these head-to-head battles set across iconic courses like Krokhol, Idlewild, and GMC, excitement is building. The strategic placement of players and courses is enough to keep fans engaged, even if the overall structure lacks the prestige of an Elite Series event. Regardless, the DGPT is testing the waters, and if this proves successful, it could pave the way for future weekday events—perhaps even a long-awaited team competition.

The Battle for Arkansas: Go Throw vs. Jonesboro Open

The Go Throw Tour is back for its second stop, this time at Persimmon Ridge. However, the timing creates an interesting dynamic as it goes head-to-head with the Jonesboro Open. Both events take place in Arkansas over the same weekend, with Jonesboro running a 27-hole format by adding Beatrice Park to the Disc Side of Heaven Championship course.

The downside? A split field, making it harder for either event to attract a full roster of top-tier talent. However, with Gannon Buhr already committed to Go Throw and Calvin Heimburg in the mix, fans can still expect a high level of competition.

Sprinkle Valley Leans into Hole 18 Controversy

Sprinkle Valley has fully embraced its role as disc golf’s professional wrestling-style villain, leaning into the controversy surrounding Hole 18. While the stroke-and-distance rule has been criticized, the course has accomplished its primary goal—standing out. It’s being talked about, remembered, and, most importantly, marketed.

The only thing left? Slap the design on a disc or shirt and sell it. Classic disc golf move.

Quick Hitters
