This Week in Disc Golf: PDGA’s Big Changes, World Games Rosters, Sexton’s Streak, and European Swing Begins

What’s up, discgnerates! It’s Swiss Cheese with The Disc Golf World—you know, that one YouTube channel that’s not afraid to say we’re the best home for all your professional disc golf news in a fraction of the time the other guys take.

Also the channel that just booked its itinerary for this year’s Worlds. So Finland fans—watch out. Because there was no chance these goofballs would miss the largest disc golf event ever, even with our… let’s call it “complicated” relationship with the DGPT. Wouldn’t feel right if we weren’t there.

The only way we made this trip happen is thanks to all of you. From subscribing to donating on Patreon—even you who hate-watch us. Keep an eye out for more content. And while we’re at it, we’re not only looking for fans—we’re looking for collaborators. People to help us with content. Hit us up on socials if you’re interested.

Back to TWIDG—What Happened This Week in Disc Golf

Most of you know, you’re watching This Week in Disc Golf, where I cover all things disc golf from the past week. Cascade Challenge was a success and covered in depth already. If you missed that, go check out our Monday video. Let’s shine some light on everything else that happened.

PDGA Breaks Tradition with Rules Proposals Reveal

One bit of news you might have missed: PDGA’s future rules proposals will be announced on the Staggered Stance Podcast. Yes, they’re opting for YouTube instead of the usual newsletter bulletin. Biggest shakeup since they changed the header photo back in 2022.

This move raises questions—and, in a slow week, some juicy speculation. PDGA has been breaking from its own norms a lot this year. Maybe they’re finally embracing disc golf media beyond themselves to reach “the masses.” Trying to create buzz, spark engagement—honestly, not a terrible strategy if it works.

Staggered Stance locking in that exclusive with Robert Leonard. Could change how PDGA does these announcements in the future. I’ll do my best to promote it before you guys roast me—so make sure you tune in Monday for the drop. I will be.

But Let’s Be Real…

Look—I can finally admit it: Disc Golf World? Not on that list. Don’t act surprised. You really thought PDGA would embrace us? They just eliminated their magazine and took four years to even acknowledge popular disc golf podcasts. My bet for their next invites? SmashBoxx or Tour Life.

Content creators like JMilly or anyone doing fast-paced shorts and creative media? Nowhere on their radar. But hey—it’s still progress. Shows PDGA is inching in the right direction. Actually trying to engage members and the broader community.

And I’m trying here—really trying—not to crap all over it. Mainly because, ya know, we still don’t have media passes for Worlds yet. But it shows just how far PDGA has to go. Picking only the safe, established voices while ignoring tons of popular, creative channels? Kinda tired. Kinda biased. Kinda not actually “engaging the masses.”

Check the views for yourself. Check the subscribers. Engagement isn’t hard to measure.

Why Not Both?

I get it: podcasts create debate. But you can’t tell me a well-produced, short-form video showing new rule proposals wouldn’t blow up the comments section. Or why not both? Give me the podcast and the sweet KCay music video. Get creative. Get people actually talking.

Even if you don’t want to include us, at least tee up some media folks to help spread the word. Feels short-sighted not to. But hey—we’re the guys who’ve been critical at times. Maybe that Heinold license plate joke hit too hard. Who knows?

What’s Really Going On?

More importantly—why now? Is this a sign of a major rule change? Or do these proposals just need so much clarification they’re trying to hype them up? Breaking the norm gives it an air of importance. Could we finally see a step-putt ban? Something new? Or is it going to be a nothing-burger that makes this whole buildup seem embarrassing? Honestly… I’m leaning toward that last one.

And despite all this promo, we shockingly know little to nothing about it. We didn’t even bother investigating. Going to let ourselves be surprised like everyone else. Usually we get the rumors first—so it’s either super top-secret or just not much to talk about. We’ll see Monday.

Quick Hitters: World Games Rosters, Sexton’s Streak, and More

Let’s rip through the other big stuff this week:

  • 2025 World Games: Some rosters were released. Disc golf is one of 32 sports (61 disciplines) in Chengdu, China. First time in 24 years as a medal event! Right there with drone sports, tug of war, cheerleading, and yes—fistball. Team USA? The law firm of Gannon & Gannon (Buhr and Missy) reunite as likely favorites. Team Canada? Thomas Gilbert and Sofia Donneka. Should be fun in that fast matchplay format.
  • LVC Weekend: Innova’s own Vinny took down one of the year’s premier A-tiers, with back-to-back 10-unders to close. Beat Emerson Keith and Cupcake Curtis (who still qualified for USDGC despite apparently being less liked than The Grove or us).
  • Nate Sexton: Wins his second championship in a row in MP40. Kicking off a new streak in his new division.
  • Jay “Yeti” Reading: An accident kept him from Masters Champs, but he still participated at LVC. FPO had Allen vs. Allen—Jennifer beating Catrina for the title.
  • Lake Marshall Open: Harry Chase got the win, holding off a charge from chase card Branden Sides.
  • Cadence Burge: Busy week—won the Barfield Open in MA1 and graduated high school in the same week. Legend.
  • Ricky’s Bitcoin Update: Some wonder if he made more off crypto than Dynamic did in disc sales. (They might still be on clearance, by the way.)
  • Meme Watch: Ricky got dunked on for mimicking the Raptor Toilet logo from Cascade Challenge. Beautiful work, internet.
  • Birthdays: Shoutouts to Hannah Wen and Hanna McBeth for celebrating this week.

And That’s a Wrap!

Plenty of disc golf action—whether you’re setting the alarm for the European swing with Konopiště or staying stateside for Go Throw’s Kayak Point. Worlds has new turf, the disc golf festival already has new course changes. The season is heating up.

That wraps up This Week in Disc Golf. Big thanks to everyone on Patreon, all of you watching, even the hate-watchers. If you made it this far? Like, comment, share, and for the love of Chainstars, help us get over 30K subscribers. See you degenerates next time.
